Hong Kong–born cellist William Lui is an emerging international artist with appearances in Europe and East Asia. He has received awards including the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Award, the Leverhulme Trust Arts Grant, and a full scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. William has performed with artists including Mihaela Martin, Ralf Gothóni, and Lucas Debargue, and appears regularly with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and London Symphony Orchestra. He is also Artistic Director of Chamber Music at Fidelio CIO and teaches at Guildhall Young Artists King’s Cross.

Raised both in Shanghai and Hong Kong, William studied with Professor Huang Bei Xing and the late Patrick Sabberton before graduating with First-Class Honours from Guildhall under Prof. Timothy Lowe. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree with Prof. Louise Hopkins and has participated in masterclasses with Franz Helmerson, Kristina Blaumane, and Steven Doane. William arrived alone in London in 2020 at the age of 18, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, to pursue his studies. Navigating the uncertainties of a rapidly changing world, he developed a strong sense of resilience and adaptability that continues to shape his artistic and personal outlook.

He performs on a beautifully crafted Farina Montagnana copy made in 2025 by Robin Aitchison.
